Our Learning Program
Through a curriculum of exploration and play-based learning, which is led by experienced educators and teachers, our early learning centre in Nambour develops each child’s natural abilities. Children come to understand important concepts, build self-confidence and discover the joy of learning – all before they’ve even reached school age.
Underpinning the educational framework is a nurturing environment where Christian values are shared and social interaction is encouraged between children. At such a young age, learning is mostly a sensory experience and we encourage both indoor and outdoor activities to add to the learning experience. NCC early learners is known for the ‘added value programs’ where visits to the NCC farm to see the miniature horses, harvesting vegetables from the gardens and fruit from the orchards is all part of the learning experience.
Other early advantages include a variety of excursions including a trip to Australia Zoo, visits from Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, Marine Life and a ride on a train to a teddy bear picnic to name just a few. What child doesn’t like swimming! NCC early swimmers learn to swim pool complex operates right next to NCC early learners, perfect for children to learn to swim and be safe in water environments.
Music & Art
NCC early learners value the uniqueness of each child and strives to explore the potential and possibilities that they possess at this age, especially in the area of art and music.
Each day children engage in art experiences with an array of creative materials, stunning art and craft pieces are delivered home to families to share. Our early learning centre encourages children to act with increasing independence and endurance, and engage in ways to explore and be imaginative and creative.
We are proud to be one of the early learning centres in Sunshine Coast that promotes a range of activities. Music is an integral part of our every day and students have opportunities to learn worship songs, play with a variety of instruments from other cultures and dance with free expression. Through songs, games and activities, concepts of pitch, beat, rhythm and volume are introduced. They also work as a group to learn words and actions to songs which contribute to our end of year performances.
Sport & Swimming
ACTIVE KIDS PROGRAM
Our early learners love to run and jump and our “Active Kids” program is a specially designed just for these little learners. This super fun sports program involves demonstration by the educator and repeated practice of gross motor skills, ball skills, fine motor, fitness, balance, dance, and group games skills.
Our sizeable open play spaces with regular physical activity for children develop muscular strength and endurance and improves stability and locomotor skills. It also helps establish self-esteem and improve social well-being and fitness enhances their learning potential.
NCC early learners promotes a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, healthy living and our Active Kids program.
What child doesn’t like swimming! We have our very own Learn to Swim pool complex operating right next to our centre, and incorporate a swimming lesson with a professional swim instructor once per week as part of the daycare program for children from 2.5 years of age. Perfect for Sunshine Coast families who would like their child to learn to swim and be safe in water environments.
Chapel & Library
A particular highlight during the term is our weekly Chapel where our early learners enjoy music and worship time and thoughtful messages presented by the educators. Special presentations are made as children are chosen to go on stage and receive an award as ‘Student of the Week’. Parents are welcome to attend.
Reading is actively encouraged at our early learning centre and the emphasis is making it a fun and fulfilling experience. Within the Centre and with visits to the stunning Junior School library, the children have a wide selection of literature and engaging activities. Staff often get into character to share engaging and fascinating stories with the children. NCC early learners also enjoy book week with Junior School students, enjoying dress ups, parade and special events.
NCC early learners centre is surrounded by the NCC Berakah Farm, a five acre working farm with cattle, miniature horses, chickens, honey bees including blossoming orchards and vegetable gardens. Our early learners love to spend time with the animals, feeding and patting the miniature horses and learning about how to care for the animals.
The children enjoy a hands-on approach to nutrition as they get their hands dirty learning how to grow delicious fruit and vegetables and experience eating a variety of fresh seasonal produce with Farmer Barry. As the children are encouraged to enjoy spending time outdoors and looking after the natural environment, they learn plant names and successfully harvest edible plants.
Gardens can be used to integrate science, mathematics, language, arts, history, environmental studies, nutrition and health into fun learning activities for children. A totally unique experience for early learners, giving NCC early learners another early advantage.
NCC early learners is known for the ‘added value programs’ another way in which we are unique from other early learning centres throughout the Sunshine Coast. These early advantages include a variety of excursions, including a trip to Australia Zoo, Maroochy Botanical gardens, the cinemas, visit to the Hospital, riding on a train to enjoy a teddy bears picnic and Ginger Factory.
We also have visits from Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, marine life visits, we take part in African drumming workshops and are invited to be a part of the many events at Nambour Christian College. Some of these events include crazy hair day, book week dress up and parades, wind symphony practice, Year 10 work experience students and student leaders, hospitality students catering for events, and the numerous special events and celebrations we hold at NCC early learners. This aspect of the program connects the children with real life experiences allowing for engagement in the community and providing learning opportunities.
If you have eaten off a menu, admired your silhouette or come to attention, you are using words originating from French. NCC early learners is pleased to see the introduction of the study of French. Led by our wonderful teacher, Mrs Sally Mallet, we know that learning a foreign language from a young age supports academic achievement because it improves cognitive development, memory and problem solving skills. There are also cultural benefits to studying a language, expanding our children’s horizons beyond their own cultural experience. We have chosen French, one of the Romance Languages, because it’s origin, like English, lies in Latin roots, and because many words from the French vocabulary have become part of our everyday use of English.
